Description

A semi abstract original painting using acrylic paints, inks and texture paste.

50x50cm

When I look at white canvas I sometimes freeze but the best solution for this is to start; mark making is the first thing I usually do to ‘break’ the silence of the canvas. I do not always know what it is going to be and more often than not the painting evolves itself.

The Sails are one of many paintings using the same technique. Acrylic paints, inks and texture paste were applied with palette knives.

When I start a new painting, it comes alive on its own but there is an influence of other paintings. This influence is also visible and recognizable in the use of colours, tones and values.

I choose the colours depending on my mood as well as subconsciously. Blue seems to be my colour of choice lately. There is something about blue tones that keeps me excited. It is as if the tones of blue are inviting me in, enticing me to play with them.

Inspiration finds me sometimes unprepared and makes me confront my mind against my heart. When I struggle I go out and observe the nature around me. I am fortunate enough to live in such amazing settings of the mountains of Serra da Estrela in Central Portugal.
